SWCOLT ANNOUNCES ITS 2012 SUMMER SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TEACHERS

 

You do not need to be a member of SWCOLT to apply for a scholarship.

Winners will be asked to join SWCOLT.

FOR GERMAN TEACHERS:

Unfortunately, a Goethe Institut scholarship will not be offered again this year. However, the

Goethe Institut offers a few scholarships through their regional offices in Chicago and San

Francisco. So, it was suggested that interested German teachers contact the office that

their respective state belongs to.

 

FOR FRENCH TEACHERS:

The Académie des Langues de Trois-Pistoles Scholarship will not be renewed this year, but the Academie hopes to be able to offer their scholarship in 2013.

 

FOR SPANISH TEACHERS:

The Centro MundoLengua Scholarship offers a wonderful opportunity for a Spanish AP

Teacher to participate in Centro MundoLengua’s AP Summer Institute for Teachers in

Sevilla, Spain, from June 24 to July 7, 2012. The scholarship includes tuition, room and

board with a Spanish family (an individual room), course materials, completion certificate,

cultural activities in Sevilla, and a welcome breakfast and farewell dinner. The scholarship

does not include airfare, personal spending money or the additional fee necessary to obtain

The Universidad Internacional-The Center for Linguistic Multicultural Studies Scholarship offers a two-week opportunity to study language and culture in Cuernavaca, Mexico anytime

in 2012. The scholarship includes registration and two weeks of course work.  Transportation and lodging expenses are not included. The Cemanáhauc Educational Community Scholarship offers Spanish language classes

and intensive study of the arts and history of Mexico in an atmosphere of total immersion in

the language and culture in colonial Cuernavaca, México. It is designed for a K-16 Spanish

teacher who has had few previous opportunities to travel to Latin America, and who needs

an opportunity to increase his/her oral fluency. The scholarship includes registration and tuition for two-weeks of study anytime in 2012, housing (double occupancy) with all meals, and one all-day field study excursion. The value of this scholarship is $1083. Transportation expenses including the transfer to Cuernavaca (about $30 round trip), the textbook (about $35), and personal expenses are not included. The Dr. Candace Dugan Scholarship at Academia Latinoamericana de Español - The

scholarship this year is from July 8th to 21st, 2012 and includes a two-week Spanish language immersion experience or Indigenous Andean Culture and Regional Literature course including a homestay and four hours of instruction in groups of a maximum of five students. In case no group is formed, the scholarship recipient will receive three hours of private instruction per day.  The program can consist of two weeks in Quito, Ecuador.  The scholarship includes registration, tuition for two weeks, housing with a host family (double occupancy), breakfast and dinner each day, and laundry service.  Travel to the study site in Ecuador, lunches, and personal expenses are the responsibility of the scholarship recipient.
